Surrender 365 Inc. has partnered with Rural Focus Africa (RUFA) and the Lepers Aid Committee in Ghana, West Africa and has established a micro-loan project to support the economic development and self-sufficiency of people living with leprosy in Ghana.
In 2020 we launched our first VSLA group project in Ankaful leprosy community in Ghana, West Africa, in collaboration with Rural Focus Africa (RUFA).
A total of 3 groups (comprised of 30-35 individuals each) were trained in the VSLA model and successfully completed the 1-year program in February 2021. and have continued the program.
The group members have been able to save money throughout the year, and take out small loans to support themselves and their economic endeavors.
This has never been done before in any of the leper colonies in Ghana!
We were extremely excited to continue support for 17 of the most vulnerable individuals living in the Ankaful leprosy community starting last year on Jan 31, 2021, in honor of World Leprosy Day!
This new venture was open to individual with leprosy and their family members as the family members of people with leprosy are often discriminated against and face tremendous obstacles in securing employment. As a result, the whole community suffers.
Listed below are 17 budding business owners with leprosy and/or their family members who were supported by your generous donations.
Our partners in Ghana (RUFA) provided coaching in entrepreneurship, business support, and advisory services to support the economic activities of each individual listed below, throughout 2021.
The money that each individual received to establish or expand their business, will be paid back to RUFA by the individual, and then used to support another individual with leprosy/family member through the Revolving Fund Scheme.
So each donation given, truly becomes the gift that keeps on giving!
The programs have done so well that we plan to expand to another leprosy colony in 2022!
